"I Was Only Seventeen"
©1998  by Spring

Why did you stop me?

I was only seventeen!

What did I take that you thought I didn't pay for?
How many life times will it take for me to know
that I've paid back all that I owe?

Pain!

Do you know the pain of my every day?

The littlest of creatures not fed -
thistle and sunflower seed never to see their faces!

And the pain of seeing what gets trashed.

So much for the garden that the worms will never feel!

Do you know how rich the soil could be?

And the days I ache to tend to you.
Sift my hands through the fineness of you!

To shift the plants around and see the creation of great beauty.

Oh yes - you've humbled me.

Will I ever know?
