Its early morning
and the fog is just lifting itself
from the dry river beds
a lone egret swoops down
into the mud
and brings up a meal
somewhere in the distance
a mocking bird pierces the dawn
and Im reminded of how sweetly
you cried into a morning that held
promises for a future bright
with love and respect

I walked along remembering
what it was that I said
that made you smile
long into a day
remembering how you felt
when I brought you nearer
to the vision

some dogs have raced by me
scurrying up the last vestige of dew
it clings to my bare legs
as the early mornings breeze whispers
against me
and once again I find myself
lost in the dream that held you and I.
My love, come home to me
